The Power of Testimony
“As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “It shall be done to you according to your faith.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them: “See that no one knows about this! ” But they went out and spread the news about Him throughout all that land.” Matthew 9:27-31 NASB
In this passage we see Jesus healing two blind men. We’ve seen him heal the blind and sick and crippled before in the gospels and maybe this seems a bit repetitive for Matthew to mention again, at first. But these two men knew who Jesus was, they believed him to be the Messiah despite the fact they had never actually “seen” any of his works. Their faith is much like our own based solely on the testimony of others. And in this passage we can see an example of how our faith should be borne out. We also see the importance of testimony to the faith. How many of us would have come to salvation were it not for the testimony of our friends, families, pastors, and mentors. Even Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul have testified in writing so that thousands and thousands of people may come to believe in Jesus’s sacrifice and salvation. Testimony is the basis of our faith. If you find yourself doubting, questioning, or feeling distant from God, ask someone to tell you how he has worked in their life. There is nothing more powerful than the evidence of God’s provision and plan in our brothers and sisters lives to stave off our own creeping feelings of faking it. So the next time we come to the table ask yourself “how has God worked in my life?" How have I seen him work in others?”
And when you ask yourself these questions, I hope the Harvest Initiative comes to your mind as an abundant overflow of God’s provision in our communities’ lives. The Harvest is a place where you can be truly encouraged and spurred on by the faith of your fellow believers, and it is undoubtedly a place where you can feel close to God. If you are not subscribed I would encourage you to do so, and allow the body of Christ at the Wesley Foundation to lift you up with the stories of God’s work on Louisiana Techs’s campus and in young believer’s lives.
